Despite the huge popularity of social networking among teens, more respondents reported using Gmail than Snapchat or Facebook, June 2016 research uncovered. The only site used more than Gmail was YouTube, which is not surprising given the plethora of content and influencers available on the video-sharing site. Interestingly, Gmail ranked second on the list. Indeed, three-quarters of teens said they used the email app. To compare, more teens said they used Gmail than social sites and apps including Snapchat, Instagram and Facebook. Even Kik, a messaging app that is popular among this demographic, didn’t rank as high as Gmail.
Nonetheless, teens are active social media users. This year, 17.5 million social network users between the ages of 12 and 17 will use a social network at least once per month. And by 2020, that number will grow to 18.2 million.
