Microsoft named artificial intelligence a top priority in its most recent annual report.
The company, which released its fiscal year 2017 year-end earnings statement July 20, notes six references to AI, up from zero in its previous annual report.
Microsoft also added AI to its corporate vision statement in its financial filing.
"Our strategic vision is to compete and grow by building best-in-class platforms and productivity services for an intelligent cloud and an intelligent edge infused with AI," the company wrote.
By contrast, last year's corporate vision statement read, "Our strategic vision is to compete and grow as a productivity and platform company for the mobile-first and cloud-first world."
Microsoft posted $89.95 billion in total revenue for 2017 with revenue from its intelligent cloud segment reaching $723 million. This category was driven by revenue for Azure, the company's cloud platform.
