Tennessee has been ranked as one of the best states in which to practice medicine, according to an analysis from WalletHub.
The report, released this week, ranks Tennessee as the 10th best among all states and the District of Columbia to practice medicine.
Tennessee was in the top 10 states behind Iowa (1), Minnesota (2), Idaho (3), Wisconsin (4), Kansas (5), South Dakota (6), Montana (7), Mississippi (8) and Alabama (9).
The analysis scored states on a number of factors in the categories of Opportunity and Competition and Medical Environment. Factors considered for the rankings include malpractice award payouts per capita, annual malpractice liability rate, physician salaries, number of CME credits required and many more.
TMA continuously works to improve the practice of medicine in Tennessee for physicians and patients, and promotes policies to help attract physicians to the state to fill important healthcare needs.
Those efforts include supporting laws now in effect that improve the state’s medical malpractice environment, such as a regulation that caps noneconomic damages in medical liability cases.
Most recently, TMA worked to pass the Healthcare Provider Stability Act in the General Assembly. This a first-of-its kind bill will limit changes to insurance fee schedules and require notice of those changes, bringing more predictability and transparency to the provider payment process.
